An Intro to Investing in Short Domains
Names being the second most popular post (after the LLLL.com price guide) on 4 Letter Noob, I thought it was important to follow that up with this post — an Intro to Investing in Short Domains.
I posted this a couple days ago on Namepros and was initially intending on including it in the mid-April LLLL.com price guide, however I think it deserves it’s own post, plus the price guide is long enough as it is already!
If you’re new to domaining or new to short domain names, please understand that this post explains the large majority of terms related to short domain name investing. It will probably take awhile before you’ll be familiar or comfortable with these terms, but understanding the various terms and their valuations as reported in the LLLL.com price guide should help you better understand what your short domain names are worth.
4 Letter Noob currently only covers the 4 letter .com market and while 3Character.com has done a great job covering the 3 letter market, I’ve noticed that there isn’t a price guide covering the 5 letter market or the 4 letter .net market. I’ll try to include more information on these markets in the near future, as I know most 4 letter investors are also invested in either 3 or 5 letter names, and many are invested in all three!
BQB is keeping me very busy at present, but I promise that once BQB launches I’ll be updating 4 Letter Noob more often and moving 4 Letter Noob to it’s own dedicated server — with… a new theme

The mid-April 2008 LLLL.com Price Guide will come out on the 18th. With that, I leave you with this guide. Enjoy!
C = Character. When seen in a domain name listing, the number of C’s refers to the number of characters in a domain name. In the domain name industry, the term Character refers to either a Letter of the English alphabet (A-Z) or a Number (0-9). A domain with many characters may have both many letters and many numbers. When used in conjunction with “V”, C takes on the meaning of Consonant.
L = Letter. When seen is a domain name listing, the number of L’s refers to the number of letters in a domain name. Letters are sometimes represented as C or V, when referring to a particular Consonant-Vowel letter pattern domain name.
N = Number. When seen in a domain name listing, the number of N’s refers to the number of numbers in a domain name.
